11 each L-16-Hs
« on: April 16, 2008, 03:47:52 AM »
A freind has an off grid vacation cabin. Last year he bought these L-16-Hs used.

They were sold as only 2 years old. However his solar pannels didn't keep them charged and now they won't hold or take a charge.

He asked me to try to bring them back with my desulphator/pulse charger.

This has worked great on golf cart batteries and my 2850 LB lift truck battery so we're giving it a go.

This charger is using 280 UF worth of motor run caps and a 35 amp fullwave bridge fed direct from the AC mains through a 2 KW isolation transformer.

I think each battery will take about a week. I'm tracking from start to finish amps, volts and SG. They are 6 volt but all read around 2 volts.

If they charge up then I'll do a load test. These things are heavy, I think over 100 lbs each?

Jerry,

how can I get info on how to build such a charger? I have some batteries I would like to see if I could get some additional life out of

Almost sound like those trojan J305G batteries that I scavenged from work....

Trojan lists them as weighing 98 pounds each.....and I was dumb enough to carry four of them through my trailer.......one at a time of course...

dynaman,

I believe this is the circuit Jerry still uses,

Have a look at this page for some details on the circuit and/or use the "Google search the Board" link and search "watgas" for more posts on this circuit.  This can be dangerous circuit, care is needed.

Befor conecting the L-16 to the desulphator I measured the SG. It read 0 or watter.

I've been runing the desulphator about 8 HRs a day. This setup is a my store so we disconect it at end of day.

Yesterday the SG was reading 1000. These batteries are big so it may take a week or so to bring the SG to 1275 to 1325?

Next week I'm going to either rais the input voltage or add more caps. The rate at present is abit to slow.

I'll post the #s in a week or so along with load test.
