Hughs 4 FT Genny.
« on: April 28, 2008, 04:57:32 AM »
Dec. of 06 I started collecting parts for Hughs 4 ft wind genny. First thing I did was bought his book and magnets from our good hosts.

I've started up again on that project. The parts have been in a box just waiting to get put together.

Some of my original parts ended up in other unit.

Heres what I have ready now. I'm using a 12" sub woofer basket to support the stator. The stator is my usual wafer system made of fiberglass shower sheeting.

I have the 2"X1"X1/2" magnets secured to the 9" disc. The coils are wound.

Hugh calls for 85 turns of 16 GA. I've wound it instead with 2 in hand 19 GA.

16 GA. is 2583 circular mils. 19 GA. is 1288 circular mils. I fugured 2576 is close enough to 2583 to work.

Hugh has sugjested 20 GA. at 170 turns for 24 volt use. 20 GA. is 1022 circ. mils 2X that is only 2044 circ mils.

I will be able to wire this unit in stock star or "Jerry Rigged" using the same stator.

Here are some pictures.

My super duper 2 in hand full electronic coil winder with counter.

The coil with 2 posabilities.

6 of the same.

The 9" steel disc.

Fiberglass sheet magnet template.

Complete disc with magnets.

Back side of disc.

Stator form in speaker basket support.

another veiw.

Thats all for now. I'll post more when the alt. is assembled.

Looks like fun Jerry .I like this design there's a lot to say good about the coils in a frame like that .I 'd say That speaker basket can take some torque  also .
