Some fun pictures
« on: July 22, 2008, 05:01:25 AM »
Here are pix of some funny things I've found in my equipment.  See if you can name the device that contains these messages.  Maybe I'll wait a while and see if anyone can guess...

Anyway, I arrived home to find this in my neighbour's field:

So, quiz question two: In what province of Canada is this most likely to happen?

Yeah, I'll give you the answer to this one: Alberta.

Sorry: it's probably not obvious to many viewers what's in the photo other than my windmill tower.  In the background of the picture is the drill head of a natural gas well, which just got set up this morning in my neighbour's field.  About 1 km from my house.  They will be parked there, using my driveway for about a week.  Southern Alberta is covered with well-heads, particularly in the area where I live.  As in, one per square kilometer.  At least the gas isn't sour with H2S around here.

Well, those guys can go ahead.  At least I'm trying to be part of the solution.

Steve

That is true. When I lived in Alberta in my small community of houses and farms we had 3 gas heads drilled and 4 oil pumps set up in the surrounding fields around my house.

Hi spar,

Your going to have to disqualify me from answering your question so I'll refrain for answering.  So have you been able to get it up and running?  Chad

The top pic is a Trace / Xantrex SW inverter... so maybe the second one is the circuit board from a C-series charge controller? I've never noticed.

Your post/quiz gave me a chuckle.  I think it would be unfair to answer directly, so I took my own pictures to match yours:

I had to remove 4 screws to get to this one:

I suspect if the engineers/designers who stuck those in there ever saw this post they would get a kick out of it.  Rich

Hey Stormy, you got the answer to both.  I noticed the "HAL" almost as soon as the thing came out of the box, but the C40, I've had it since November, and had the cover open plenty of times.  Never saw it before yesterday, so I just about fell over when I saw that fellow wink at me!

Hey, Rich, your guy didn't wink at you!  At least he's smiling.

That's interesting to see the just-so-slightly different components on the boards, too.  On the outside, the C40 probably isn't so different (or do you have a C60?).

Do your Xantrex manuals also recommend themselves for insomnia sufferers?  I got a kick out of that, too.

Well, the drillers are still at it.  They work through the night, too:

No, it's a C-40 too, probably just a different board revision, whichever one is newer with an updated smiley face.

I had to check:  Quote from page 5:  "If you are an insomniac, properly used, this manual is guaranteed to provide several good nights of sleep."

Of course in your case that would have to offset the effect of the drill crew working next door.  Rich

Hi Stephen,

In Oklahoma, nearly every 80 acre track has at least one well. I hope you have mineral rights! The oil companies around me have drilled 5 wells in the last year. They can be quite noisy and irritating anytime of the day and unnerving at night.

If you have the mineral rights you might see if you can drill your own and have all the gas you need.  B-)
