Test coil for new PMA.
« on: December 11, 2008, 04:02:55 AM »
This is the first coil I've wound for the 14-11 ceramic magnet dual rotor.

I built my first dual rotor a couple years ago. I've built several NEO machines since then.

This is an expiriment with the Lowes ceramic magnets, using 2 12" discs, 14 magnets per disc and 11 coils with 400 turns each of 24 ga. wire.

The first unit a couple years ago used 350 turns of 24 ga. It was a 10" disc machine.

I have a littel more room on this one. I'll be building 3 diferant stators. In this first stator I'm using cast powdered iron in the coil center.

I actuly cast 11 centers the same size and shape of the coils. Now I place them in the coil winder, wind the coils around them and just leave these in the center on the coil. Then I'll cast the whole thing into the stator.

I shooting for cutin around 5 to 7 mph and around 300 watts at 30 mph. 400 watts would be nice but that may be asking way to much?

I'll be trying 46", 49" and 55" blades.

Here is a picture of the stator with coil resting in its cutout. You can almost see the iron center. There are 4 6 amp doides. Each of the 11 coils will have its own littel group of 4 doides configured as a bridge.

I measured the coil resistance. Its around 6 ohms DC per coil.

With each coil having its own fullwave bridge and then all the dc outputs perelelled this will be equal to aprox. .55 ohms for this stator. This is also slightly larger then 14 ga. wire.

The 44 6 amps diodes are equal to 264 amps of diode bridge. Way more then this littel guy could ever do. So no need for diode heat sink.

hiker,

I've got the same problem with my garage.

But even if I clean it up, two weeks later it's right back in the same shape. :-)

I think we should start a thread to see who's got the worst mess in their shop.

Let the masses vote for a winner.

What do you think?
