Tilt Back Mill Completed
« on: December 14, 2008, 02:13:24 AM »
Collected these scraps to put together a tilt back.

Frame came from an old pallet lift battery box.

The tilt mechanism came from an adjustable industrial seat.

Recycled a political sign for the rain hood.

Motor was a used take off that I did a conversion on.

Diary Link is here http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2008/10/19/213036/96

Plastic panel for the blades and a piece of plywood for the hub.

Here's the rectifier mounting

Completed mill

Full tilt.

On the front of the bracket there is a spring loaded cable attached to add pressure to keep from furling too soon and assist with bringing it back down.

There is also a chain stop.

Here's the spring loaded cable mechanism inside the frame.

This is my first try at furling so we'll see what happens when the wind blows.

Nice work. I like the idea of using whatever the scrap you have available.

One thing that concerns me is the "full tilt" picture. If that's how far it will tilt, the power would still not be reduced were much when fully furled, as the available power drops with the cosine of the angle. So in the about 45 degrees tilt show in the picture 71% of the full power would still be blowing against the prop.

looks like he has a cable on there -as to how far it tilts back-just add a little more

cable..and add a little rubber[innertube] to the base to help control the shock when it hits the base--       cool mill.......

Actually I have some design flaws.

With the bowl shaped base I had to mount the tail inside the frame for the motor.

This caused two problems, I could not bring the motor housing forward enough to get more furling weight because the tail boom would not clear the base, second my tail furls with it.

I think I may be able to correct these problems by doing a double bend ( Z shape)on the tail boom with lighter tubing.

Thanks for the comments.
