Conversion flys again
« on: April 04, 2009, 07:25:58 AM »
My mate Grant (Trivo) converted this motor some years ago.... there are a couple of pics missing but

We launched it at my property but the output was a little disappointing.

I have now relaunched it with different blades and the results are quite pleasing.

Conversion fly's

A different set of blades has resulted in these figures, cut in 225 Rpm (24V system) 5A 285 rpm, 10A 390 Rpm, 15A 500 Rpm delta conected. The results up to 30A are quite pleasing, it will produce 5A in a breeze. The mounting arrangements leave some to be desired but I was reluctant to change that until it proved it's worth.

So all in all a useful wind turbine for my stable, so now I once again wonder about some 2.2Kw 3 phase 750Rpm motors I have, I have always doubted that one can achieve any where near name plate rating in a low voltage system, but for a low wind unit this may be worth the magnets.

I have several of these motors some of which I ratted the rotors for flat belt pulleys.

They have a winding resistance of 3.1 ohm/ phase, I would be setting it up in my new system that will be 48V so that will be an advantage. Probably make a 1Kw unit at best.

Allan;

You forgot to mention how far you are from the last Juice Bush.

The dynamics change a lot when the grid doesn't loop by your place, eh. Any amps is good amps.

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I actually remember that original post.

Zubbly [RIP] always felt you could basically get the same current from a conversion at most any battery voltage range. Just drive it faster. I tend to agree. Saw it in practice between my 12 and 24 volt systems with same mini conversion he built for me.

Thanks for the update.
