Its been awhile since I have posted, but some here might be interested in how my 22 foot has performed in the last two years. I am glad to say, that I have had zero trouble with this duell rotor. As I have written in my previous posts, I am not off the grid, so I have been happy to have less output from the turbine by keeping it in stall. The 22 foot RPM is Usually around 60 to 80, and charges my 48 volt bank up to 30 Amps depending on the Wind speed. It Averages around 12 amps, which is more than enough to keep the batterys charged. Because of the 140lbs of blades, I feel it has the flywheel toque needed to supply substancial amps at low RPM, and very low winds.I get from 2 to 8 KW a day.
The wind in my area rarely is over 30MPH. I have saw 45MPH, and the turbine has never broken stall. I have at times shut it down, if higher winds are forcasted. I never worry about it running away, therefore I feel a furling tail is not neccesary. Yes, It is possible to lose a wire or two, and than of course it would take off, but that I think would be the same even if it would furl.
My 18 foot has been flying for three years now in 12 volt, and does have a tilt up furling, but even that one rarely does furl. It is also in stall, and runs at about 50 RPM. This turbine has also given me zero trouble.
