Well like I said it made the inverter kick out so

finally I take it apart and yeah it's a PM motor

it's big enough for a regular 18 inch cordless

I figure it must have a diode in the handle

somewhere....I checked it out and when I press the

trigger I get 120 volts AC?? and PM s don't run on that.....would this be a 110 volt DC motor??


If it is...I can put about 90volts NiCad pack to

run it???

Many small motors are 'Universal AC/DC Motors'. These will run on either AC or DC power.

I had a weedwhacker that quit on me, so I took it apart and found a DC motor and a bridge rectifier. Turns out that the bridge rectifier was bad so I dug one out of my parts stash and went back to whacking many more weeds. A year later the trigger switch went bad so I just bypassed it, so now it starts as soon as I plug it up to power, this can be exciting at times.


But I am forever thinking about that DC motor, it could be up in the wind making an insignificant amount of power . . .

This is definitly a PM motor, no field coils,

a slight 'cogging'.. will not run on AC, found a

little square gizmo ....NS64 with a tiny heat

bubble that don't look like it should be there??

 I can spin the motor with my fingers and get a

couple three    open volts...and about 50 volts

DC from the Ol pedgen spins it pretty fast.

Look something like a bridge rectifier on an ECM,

but smaller?

Yep Exciting is the key word here, especially if

....like a co-worker running a weed wacker in

casual attire,  (open-toed sandals and shorts)

No, more like a square diode a wire on each end,

just in series to the load.

Mine does about 8volts (open) at 500rpm.
