Blade change
« on: July 19, 2009, 05:56:59 PM »
I wanted a deeper foil on the turbines I make and a little aesthetic look as well . So I made up these from 3/4 rips on a 6 degree miter .I think they came out ok . The underside gets single coat of glass and fiber and some spar urethane .The truck test will be a thriller if they fly apart but they have almost no flex and the wood splits before the glue joints .Tests to follow

Kinda lame on the info > the Hawt blades are layed out on 6"pvc 5/8" rip  6 degree miter .The vawt blades on a 8" pvc 3/4 rip on 5 degree miter . 8 "layout is good for two blades 5" root roughly 2 tsr . the Vawt blade are 40" X 9.5"

Hi tecker.

The end result will look very much like my foam pipe blades.

The foam pipe is very strong. I have some 8" foam pipe and its laying on the floor just behind a work bench. I frequently stand on it and its as strong as steel.

Its very light weight. The skin is about 1/16" thick the foam is about 5/16" thick.

Its also very light. It seem as though your duplicating this pipe.

It makes a very nice blade. I've just tested a 4ft blade in the tunnel made from 6".

I'll be making an 8ft from the 8" dia. pipe.

Here a couple pictures.

I have a few more but I may have posted to many allready.

Yep made a 8" arc of 6 1/4 inner diameter and cut just like the pvc .I like the twist you develop with the cylinder cut and the way the root is 15 to 20 degrees ahead of the flat tip .I have a clamp setup for the blade mount also .I like the mount you have there .Looks strong .
