erections are cool

No better feeling than a 44' erection

This is only a story about my own erection and all questions and comments might be ignored. :-)

Positively priapic; I hope you can keep it up indefinitely, even if it gets blowy up there...  %-P

VF;

Nice unit! No pun intended.

I resisted the intense urge to change 44 feet to 4.4 inches because you are a long term contributor.

That one sure put a grin on my face there VF.

Heck of a lot of work to go through to win your own $100 bet!  :-O

Wait a minute...I think some one was going to match it, right, so you'll be good to go.

Nice job!

VF,

I'm trying to find a delicate way to tell you this...

But in light of the previous comments, I have to be blunt.

Your erection doesn't look very straight.

Oh, don't worry!  Maybe your camera was just crooked!

When I post pictures of mine, I'm VERY careful to make sure it looks straight.

Y'know....

Okay, more seriously.  I see lots of Crosby hardware.  Great stuff!

Did you give the gin pole an angle?  I looks 90 degrees there.

If you think it looks cool now, it will look cooler when you paint it!

I did  put the gin pole at a little less than 90 degrees. Once I unhoooked the guy wires though it flopped down a bit.

It is actually quite crooked in that picture. I had to fiddle with some wire lengths to get it straight, ran out of turnbuckle.

One thing I will never do again is use that stiff seven-strand wire, no matter how cheap it is.  What a complete pain to work with. I could have bought brand new 1/4" wire for about .25/foot and it would have been worth every penny, especially when it came time to adjust wire lengths.

I'm thinking pink would be a nice color ;-)

After seeing quite a few tower failure stories, all I can say is

Getting it up with nothing riding on top is easy.  Keeping it up seems to be the problem.

Thanks for the vote of confidence ;-)

Seriously though, I have been reading pretty consistently here for 4 or 5 years, and can recall very few tower failure stories. I just read 5 pages of Google search on this board for "tower failure" and saw lots of wind turbine failure stories, and no tower failure stories.

This thing puts a good bit of fear into me when I'm raising or lowering it. I really like to learn from others mistakes. If you can recall a few of these tower failure stories and give me some search terms, I would like to read about them before erecting the real turbine.

It was a bit of play on words, if you know what I mean.

It would read more as intended without the top line.  ;)

I am sure it is well thought out and won't have any problems.

Seriously, the only tower failures I recall were either obvious (to the tower guys) design flaws, or flukes.

I am pretty happy our permanent tower is coming along, which is only a long 4x4.

That would fall into my files under "fluke".

As would tower problems caused by horses, which Einstein never published equations for.
