This unit is a dirivetive of 2 other units.
The first unit is my littel yellow from a year or 2 ago. Its specs are, dual rotor, 8" discs, discs are .25" thick, 12 magnets each disc are wedges 1/2" X 1" face X 1 and 7/16" long. These magnets are 3/16" thick.
9 coils are wound of 22 ga. at 250 turns per coil. This unit is Jerry Rigged with a 6 amp fullwave bridge per coil. All bridge dc outputs are perelelled.
I have seen over 1600 watts from this genny at 68 mph with no furling and not a burnt coil after an over night flight of 80 plus mph none furling.
This littel 24 volt unit works so well I've dicided to build a slightly larger unit.
This larger unit will be for 12 volt use. Logic would tell me that a 12 volt unit with the same parts list would requier wire of twice the size (cirular mils.) and half the turns count.
However this next unit will be using slightly larger wedge magnets at 3/4" X 1.5" face and 2" long with .25" thickness.
These are the ED Lenz magnets used in his 500 watt wind generator kit.
His 500 watt unit uses 8" X .25" discs also. His specs call for 40 turns of 14 ga. wire, wiered star. 3 X 40 turns per phase would = 120 turns per phase and 240 turns per coil if Jerry rigged.
Each Jerry rigged coil should then use wire 1/6th the circular mills of 14 ga. or
22 ga. wire. 22 ga. is littel yellows wire ga. at 24 volts and 250 turns.
However thats how it pencels out but the reality looks diferant when compairing the specs of my littel yellow machine.
I've dicided to use a larger ga. wire then 22 ga. and with fewer turns. Its worked out to fit 117 turns of 18 ga. wire in the space available.
Compairing this unit to the example units. It has larger magnets then littel yellow.
I'm using 10" discs rather than 8" (higher vilosity). Its Jerry rigged so it won't have the 1.7 ratio losses of star.
I'm building the stator now. Coils are being wound. This first unit will have 36 single 3 amp diodes for the bridges as per my 14-11 alt.
If this unit works well I will be building a 14-11 version of this unit with 12" disc.
I have about half the componets built so far.
I'll rerport test results when I get this machine that point.
