Anybody ever spray their own insulation?
« on: April 05, 2008, 05:58:59 AM »
Everytime it says DIY, it has some link to get someone to do it for you.

Let's see, drill hole, put tube in whole, blast insulation in....

I know if I have someone do it I am going to pay out the nose. Can I rent that equiptment and do it myself? Has anyone sprayed insulation on their own?

Excess silly story posting limit exceeded

By spray,, you're being a bit vague. Are you talking blown in cellulose insulation? Or are you talking about expanding foam insulation?

Blown in insulation is rather easy, but putting it into wall catities in some areas and some kinds of construction can be detrimental.

Cellulose insulation will hold condensation in humid areas quite badly and can cause wood that it's in contact with to rot..

Expanding foam can if over-used expand so much it actually buckles walls..

So my advice is to read about and look at what you are doing before you head in.

If you are talking about blown in cellulose, the suppliers sometimes provide the equipment free of charge for a given time frame..

They make foam spray in small cans that you can put around windows or doors and it will not distort them.  It should be possible to find the stuff in industrial quantities.
