Constant Air Circulation
« on: November 25, 2005, 01:15:37 PM »
The regular furnace blower could still come on

if necessary but it wouldn't come on as often...

right now it runs for about 12 minutes and off for about 20 ....and yes I realize that I need

better windows and doors which would boost that

time up to 40 or 60 minutes and even at that CAC

works out a lot better...usually a lot of heat is

wasted by heating up the furnace before the blower comes and when it shuts off....even if the

gas does shut off before the blower stops running.

Those car heater blower motors could be powered by a battery bank charged up by the

wind?

Even here in the winter there is more wind

blowing...cold air is denser....the trees are

leafless...don't block the wind as much etc...

The furnace probably has a do-hicky limit switch to do what you want.

A silver box with 3-4 wires, a couple (3?) set points on a dial,

that says something like 'Do not turn', with degree markings.

Maybe set the lower 2 a couple degrees lower?

The highest set point is a safety. Probably don't want to change that one at all.

It has a long twisting spring thermostat on the back that goes into the duct work.

If you won't lose any house air heat by leaving fans on all the time that might be ok.

Kinda in other words you don't want to be keeping the exhaust side of a heat exhanger warmer than it otherwise would be when the furnace is off and cause the extra heat to be lost up a flue.

I like computer fans. Cheap, kinda quite, low power, easy to mount, etc. You can get fancier ones that have a temp sensor on them, hotter the air is the faster they run. Cooler the air, slower they run. Might be good for something like this on the hot side or in the heat ducts.

Each fan would not blow as much air (nor use as much power) as a car blower maybe. But sounds like your wanting a steady low airflow perhaps, not raging winds, so perhaps they would be good for this use.

Perhaps I am missing what you are attempting to do. But, with most gas/hot air furnaces, circulating air thru the cold furnace while the gas and blower are off, will cool the home, not heat it.

So, your main furnace (and blower) will cycle more often, not less.
