Converting Animal Guts into Oil
« on: February 23, 2005, 02:45:19 AM »
Waste veggie oil is used a lot these days, but what about waste Animal Oil. Nobody ever talks about using that.

 I ran across these stories on http://slashdot.org about new thermal depolymerization plants that can convert turkey and cow guts into oil and gas. As an example if you put a 175 lb man into the machine, you would get 38 pounds of oil, 7 pounds of gas, and 7 pounds of minerals, as well as 123 pounds of sterilized water. Supposedly you can feed anything with Carbon into the process, and get Oil out the other side.

Here's the links . . .

Imagine!

We could be flushing the solution to the energy crunch down the toilet!

Seriously if they get this to work it will change a lot of things in the world.

I'm sure my ladylove will vouch for the gas output of a 175 pound man (I happen to weigh 175#). As yet I have been unable to harness that energy for anything but moving me from my bed to the couch.

I think she'd have an issue about only 7 pounds though.

Interesting links. Wonder why one claims $15 a barrel oil vs. the other $80? They are welcome to put in a processing plant near me.... have 2 chicken complexes nearby....if only to digest the dodooooo and dead carcesses

I suspect that $18.00 a pound is overly optimistic, however as the technology matures the prices should drop. I look forward to more of these plants coming on line, as it will put a serious dent in the problem of trash disposal, and provide a series of valuable byproducts.

Its all a tradeoff.

If this approach started using up all the animal guts (making them more scarce) then the cost of your dog food and cheap hot dogs would go up.

I saw a piece in the newspaper the other day where somebody wanted to get some gov funding to build a protected bird creamatorium in Colorado.  Interesting, human fetesus are flushed down a toilet and eagles have to be creamated as a show of dignity and respect.  Just an observation.

what a great idea, in australia we have 30 million feral cats eating our native fauna, this might be a new way of putting a tiger ( well pussy ) in your tank ! lets see how this new tschnology evolves, the 15 minutes i spend in the crown room of a morning may be beneficial to the the world in fat and i might just get to the sports page if i " work " at it another 5 minutes.

I HAVEN'T HEARD MUCH ABOUT TURNING ANIMAL PRODUCTS INTO OIL OTHER THAN BY RENDERING (BOILING) AND THAT WOULD BE A WAST OF FUEL. HOWEVER, YOU COULD PRODUCE METHANE BY BUILDING A DIGESTER. I GOT PLANS TO BUILD ONE OUT OF A 55 GAL DRUM. IT WORKED WELL ON GRASS CLIPPINGS DOG POO AND WATER UNTIL THE TEMP DIVED IN PA. THIS SUMMER I'M GOING TO BUILD A BIGGER VERSION. THE 55 GAL DRUM WAS JUST TO TEST.IF YOU WANT A COPY OF THE ARTICLE THAT I GIT THE INFO OUT OF JUST EMAIL ME.

Terry;

Just a friendly heads up. It is somewhat rude to type in all capital letters and is considered shouting so please press that caps lock key on the left side of your keyboard before you start typing.

Cheers.
