water wheel in creek
« on: September 11, 2007, 11:55:38 PM »
Had a great week end. Replaced the defective parts on the pump and gave it a spin.

Here we are installing the new buckets.

All ready to head to the creek. We installed a pressure gauge to measure vertical height.

Now we are pumping. It does appear it is more of an impulse turbine. Sure spins her up too. The crank pin bolt fell out and it was spinning fast enough for a Dan B. alternator.

26 psi calculates out to 59.9 feet of head, (2.304 feet per pound)and still spinning 60 rpm.

I know you are not going to believe this but it ran the sprinkler with about 3 feet diameter at 60 feet.

Bob holding our ever present helper Willy and Annie.

And one of me standing by the original setup

I have a couple of .MOV video files and will see if I can get them to work here.

divebuddy;

I love it, man. I cannot remember if you said but what are the wheels from? Or are they home brewed?

Sure looks like good old down home ingenuity in action to me.

Cheers.

Yes the wheels are from an old wheelchair. Bob has a garden cart that has the same wheels on it. Lots of junk can be turned into useful stuff, at least that is what I tell the wife when my "junk" is eyeballed.

     Very cool!! Prime example of nessecity being the mother of invention!

Your pump, is it your design? Plans maybe shared with the group?
