Hi,
I am brand new to this stuff, and would like to experiment. I've been watching the amount of water that has fallen from my roof in the last few rainy days, and it has started me thinking. Has anyone come up with any way to use rainwater falling on a roof to spin a turbine? If I could get a reasonable amount of water falling 20' during a rain, this should be able to generate some power to charge a 12 volt battery, I think.
Hypothetically:
Roof area: 100 m^2
Head: 6 m
P = 9.81 * FlowRate (m^3/s) * Head
Rainfall
(mm/hour) Power (watts)
- 6.54
- 8.175
- 9.81
- 11.445
- 13.08
- 14.715
- 16.35
- 17.985
- 19.62
Ok, so you add in inefficiencies and this doesn't look even close to worthwhile. Any thoughts?
