Water Wheel to Power pond lights
« on: April 05, 2006, 01:40:38 AM »
I have been searching the net for information to make a water wheel to power pond lights. I have a pump moving 5000 gph. Would like to build a water wheel to generate electricity to power the other pond accesories. I was looking for books and information on how to make a generator or alternator and how to us it to power light, How much power is needed and just general information.  Sorry if I sound stupid, but any help and points in the right direction would be greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Try this link, it will let you decide what power you can produce.

I doubt that your pump has much head.

If you find you have enough power then look through the pages here for ideas on low speed alternators. Similar things have been done for exercise bikes that would power a few lights.
