Pelton with the latest changes in the creek
« on: May 28, 2007, 01:22:56 PM »
Well, this is the 4th year producing summer power in the LODGE. First year was the Banki rotor (Nando's idea with the air vane rotor), the last 3 years with a modification each year to the Pelton runner.

Working with 22 feet of head and approx 5 liters/sec. Works like a champion, no need for any maintenance except for intake filter often "brushing" with a plastic brush. Show about 6 amps on the meter with 12 Volts system. Water should last a few more days unless we get rain often.

These are some of the fabrication/modifications from last year.

Is the axis horizontal?  Does it have two jets?

If so, and if there's no issue with the bearings, I'd consider remounting it with the axis vertical (and the wheel at the bottom) to get a few extra inches of head on the currently upper jet.

Ungrounded: Thanks for your suggestion but I decided that 6 inches on 22 feet of head makes non practical difference. The  additional charge would be 0.14 amps over the 6 amps I am getting now, and it would be very difficult to inspect the Pelton runner without turning the whole thing over. Right now I can see and service both, the generator (F & P washing machine PGM) and the water side without moving the box at all. All I need to do is open the inspection covers and I have very good access to everything. The design is following the owner's idea of Ecoinnovations in Australia, and he does makes his also horizontal as I did.

However, thanks for you suggestion.
