5Watt SolarLight
« on: April 08, 2006, 02:41:02 AM »
This was an idea that has come full circle. Built it in an afternoon from an old scanner that got hit by lightning or something. Needed a light in my bathroom. The solar cell is one of those C.Tire $9.99 ones. The battery an old A.T.V. type that I had kicking around.

The Plexi glass covering took most of the time to construct this unit. It draws 320 ma at 12 volts. Bill

I really like the idea of using old tech to create new tech. Home gen. power seems to make more sence if it doesn't cost the price of a small house. I would like to see more ideas like this come full circle.

Good idea Bill,

     I'm not sure what you mean by plexiglas cover construction.

I have the CTC chargers also and want to seal them up to make

an outdoor panel (10 units) They are not designed for outside

installation. Is your cover meant to cure this problem. If so

how did you do it? Thanks Fiddlehead

The plastic cover is used to protect the fragile glass cold cathode tube and was the hardest part of the project. Weldon 3 glue was used on the .115 mil plexiglas. Glue is a bit toxic in California. Bill

Everything is toxic in California, that's why I like living in MO. where we can eat glue and not worry about it :)

California is a bit toxic,

most of what comes out of Hollywood

is more than toxic and needs safty labels.

like the shows that showed terrorists how

to do the stuff they have been doing!

 I like your idea and thanks for sharing with us your expertise, we need great intelligence from people like you. It would help abit to expand on the way you turned the scanner into a light. Maybe you can send a complete info on that next time. But great job on the invention and if you come up with something like this, please pass it along again!

NTL;

   Remember though, to explain that it's the white glue we can eat in MO, not the clear stuff.

We have no idea where that clear stuff has been , and probably don't want to know either:-)

Hey Bill;

   Nice little solar panel. Looks very similar to the ICP type I sent our e-trike rider out to purchase when he let the NiCds die over the winter.

How about some greater greater detail.

I have an old scanner that doesn't want to play nice nice with the computers anymore and may give this a shot.

Do you use the PV to charge to bat during the day then use the light at night?

Cheers

Even in Ohio!  ;)

G-

Truer words have never been spoken. I've found that beeswax works as a perfect release agent:-{) though.
