Megaman 12V CFLs
« on: July 26, 2006, 02:51:57 PM »

Is anyone familiar with the brand 'Megaman', brand of 12V CFLs?

I've finally found a company that can supply 12V CFLs. They apparently have an 11W and 15W version. The 15W, which I had in mind, has a price of E.8,50 (about 10US$).

Price seems fair enough, but I'm not familiar with the brand. The name doesn't exactly sound very trustworthy. But was interested whether anyone has good or bad experiences with them.

Here's a few links. I'm not really sure which model exactly I've ordered. I ordered one, to try it out. The shop ordered 3. It's a 15W (60W equivalent) 12V one, with E27 base.

Took me awhile to get the man behind the counter convinced of the benefits of 12V CFLs; he kept trying to sell me 1W & 5W Luxeon LEDs... 'Look how bright they are'. Me: 'look at the cooling fin they require. Can't be too efficient.' 'But they use them in torches too.' Me: 'yes, because they can't fit CFLs in there.' Li

I've seen some sold in Australia, 15W, for about 25-30 AUD (18US$-21US$; 15E-18E)

Megaman is a good make.  Slightly more costly than other brands but will last a lifetime.
