hi i have a small stick welder its says its a 140. but not sure what that means.
i have done sum good work with it . i do understand i unscrew the big nob on front it will lower the current. screw it right in then its on max.
never had much luck trying to weld thin stuff. i spend more time trying to fill the holes ive blown in it .thin pipe or sheet.
i got a good earth clamp and a nice rod holder.
its only a small basic welder. but i need to try understand it a bit more.
now i ask can i put a meter set dc.the the earth - tongs.
positive negative.
ive never measured the volts dc.
but a friend once measured the ac going into the welder . he said sum times the grid can be down and i can have problems welding .
grid down on volts i mean . not shut down.
all the years ive had i never give it thought..
i got a meter with 1000 volts dc setting on it.
im just getting more interested now in dc and ac readings.
i do understand i cant go near it with amps.
i am fed up letting the magic smoke out all the other meters in the past.
i will wait and see if i get a reply and if not will give it a try.
it wont kill me but it might make just a bit smoke. not sure.
Maybe a Diary? Seems kind of off topic in main foeum?
