question on rohn tower
« on: December 14, 2007, 04:05:10 PM »
hello all,

i have a welder in the back yard and ready to start a tower for my 11 ft turbine.

i have a rohn tower same as behoof. (also making it a tilt up.)

1st section 7 ft 9 inch, with 3 10 ft sections with 7 ft pipe on that.

my question is do i need to run a cable to every joint.

i am planning on running cable to every joint on tilt pipe. was hoping to run cable at 17 ft. 9 in. and just under 7 ft top pipe.(2 cables with 4 at each station.)

i have no experience with any of this stuff except what i have learned on this sight.  and i am very thankful for all help.

i plan on furling very early probably at 22 to 25 mph wind.

 thanks windwatcher

When I used to erect Rohn 25 for communications towers we always put 3 guys at each 30 ft level.  Of course we didn't have the wind load you will.  Seems like 2 levels  of 4 guys should be adequate.  If I read your post correctly you will have about 44 feet of tower

thanks snuffy, you are correct 44 ft tower i was concerned about the joints getting to wobble, your post set my mind at ease.

i dont know about rohn 25 my tower is like behoof finally found out how to get to it. www.filelines.com/story/2007/8/21/1589/00298 (three legged tower)by behoof.although plan on making my tilt a little different.

I can't actually identify his tower type.  I don't see any diagonal bracing.  As long as the joints insert inside the section above and bolt together I don't see any problem.  I use 2 sets of anchors on my 40 ft tip up 2 1/2 inch pipe tower w/o any problem.  Yours should be stronger than mine.

the tower does bolt together with about a 8 inch insert.

thanks for your help. i do want to keep things as safe as possible.

this will be my 1st adventure in welding so i am sure my new nickname arond here will be dobber or stick-the-stick. things will be fine as long as its not things-come-tumbling-down.

thanks again windwatcher
