to heavy?
« on: January 25, 2009, 04:10:48 PM »
i've got a dc stepper motor. the only problem is its weight- 100 lbs. by the time i finish the mount and tail i'm guessing 140 lbs total. i have a rhom cb tower 30 ft tall. dont wont to fold my tower trying to raise it. have a tilt hinge mount and use a hand crank winch to lift it.the motor is a real power house, and would really like to fly it. anybody think the tower would stand up to the lifting?

depends what type and model of Rohn. if its a stamped steel model, i would advise against it. If its a 45G or larger than go for it. There are many variables.

If you are scared to lift it with the machine on it, then how do you expect it to stand up to heavy winds and not collapse?

Leave it on the ground and better suited to a

VAWT in your case.

Heavy motors like this is for more experienced

people to be hoisting in the air.

You gave no data on this either just because it's

a big stepper motor doesn't mean it will be

suitable as a wind turbine what diameter is the

WT ?
