some info about matchine waveforms
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:23:28 PM »
I am hearing more and more about people that generate their own electricity and can even put out enough extra occasionally to feel it back to the grid and lower their electric bills. I am just curious how do you match the waveform from the grid? Is there a special type of power inverter that actually matches the grid waveform?

Certain in the UK you have to get a special approved (G83) inverter which precisely does what you suggest: matches its output frequency and phase to the grid power.

Such 'approved' designs also have other safety features to avoid frying linesmen working on downed lines, etc.
