newbie- using your A/C?
« on: August 20, 2007, 03:16:00 PM »
I've read a lot about pedal-power.  For people that don't need/want to work out, how about making power from what's consuming power?  What would be the big problem with hooking up your A/C fan sitting outside to an alternator and making power that way?  Or even just using it as wind power?

I just need someone to shoot that idea down so I don't waste time researching it.

You need power to make power, it doesn't matter what form you get it in, be it wind, hydro etc.

If you were to run an alternator from your A/C fan, the fan would either

  1. draw more power to keep up with the power the alt is making for you, or
  2. not have enough power to run the alt and stall out.

Power doesn't come from nothing so running the alt from your a/c fan would just make the a/c take more power. Its very inefficient, -if- it works at all.
