hello eveyone.  i am a newbie trying to do a motor conversion i have a 1.5 hp 3phase  1725 rpm motor 36 slot stator. i think i understand the skew and placement of the magnets. what is unclear to me is the mounting of the magnets to the rotor. can  round  magnets be countersunk into the  factory rotor. i am trying to use 1/2 inch dia x 3/8 thick magnets. if i were to counter sink them  1/4 of a inch and leave 1/8 inch exposed and  use epoxy to hold them in place. what ill effects would i encounter?  i understand that the rotor will have to be turned accordingly  also can anyone give me a general idea for prop dia.  i live in a approx 2 wind zone

      thank you

Short answer - NO!

Deep buried magnets will not give the proper flux lines.

However, you could turn the rotor down and leave "90% Exposed" and probably get away with it. Be sure and use a proper adhesive. Super-glue, vinyl-ester resin and polyester resin are not proper adhesives (not adhesives at all in my opinion).

Check behoof's latest project and the files that zubbly and dinges have.

if you bury the magnet you bury it flux path as well. why drill holes and cut down rotor too? google zubby and read his post, pepa

windy;

I think this is the file you should read from the Z man. It is a compilation of his efforts and documentation of the process he uses on conversions.
