autumn acres farm
« on: October 09, 2007, 06:28:45 AM »
HI, thanks to all, The idea i had about using a farm type water wind mill was to use the down rod that would normally operate the pump jack for water to turn a pully.(think piston connecting rod to crank, only powered in reverse )Then use the pully  to turn a generator. Ideas? thanks

this has been discussed here before .

can't give you a link.

try the search feature in the menu to the right of the page

the only negative thing i can think of is you are taking a rotating motion ,

changing it to linear and then changing it back to rotating motion.

you could do a search for linear alternator as well.

I can't quite get how you would get it to power only on the up stroke as a piston pump does, perhaps a counter weight.

I see many losses but it would be doable, better to gear up off the rotary motion of the mill to the best PM  motor/generator you can get, and forget the recipricating motion.

Are you wanting to make power or just have a show piece?
