wood ax 103
« on: April 08, 2008, 01:10:32 PM »
Im wanting to build the wood ax 103 but I cant seem to find the right size magnets for the project. Im aware Otherpower used to sell them an im looking for an alternative. Does anyone have suggestions as to where i can get these magnets?  If i used different magnets does the number of turning change?

                                                          Thanks

Those magnets were from early voice coil motors for computers, they occasionally crop up surplus and I think someone ( NTL?) has had batches made so you may get some.

Yes you will need to change things to use other magnets but it is not a very scientific or critical design and you can probably adapt some similar sized magnets although they may not be curved.

I can't say that I personally would waste much time adapting that design when there are so many ways of doing something better but everyone to their own choice.

I would add to what Flux said.

Remember, the wooden alternator was one of their first attempts at alternator building.

Think of it in the same light you would comparing a horse cart to a Ferrari. Both are wheeled transportation. One is just a lot more refined than the other, as well as a lot more complex to build. There are a lot of in betweens, also.

It still is an interesting experiment, etc but do not expect much power.

Just tossing that out.

codie,

I looked at your bio, but didn't find anything that

told me what your abilities are.

maybe you need to post something like Don did.

You might find someone to work with just down the street (road).

And the forum allows you to work with people long distance.

We might not be able to hold the string while you tie the knot

but you do get the benefit of the members knowledge and mistakes.
