I would add to what Flux said.
Remember, the wooden alternator was one of their first attempts at alternator building.
Think of it in the same light you would comparing a horse cart to a Ferrari. Both are wheeled transportation. One is just a lot more refined than the other, as well as a lot more complex to build. There are a lot of in betweens, also.
It still is an interesting experiment, etc but do not expect much power.
Just tossing that out.
