If you have the bits there is no reason why you shouldn't use them. The hubs and brake discs will do, it will be heavy clumsy and inelegant compared with purpose built things but if you can get it in the air it will work ok. I wouldn't go for the old single rotor with laminated core unless you can get decent core material, but dual rotor is ok.
I certainly would avoid any of the early non furling designs. You can follow the later furling and still build the alternator from Volvo bits.
