micro wind turbine using bicycle wheel
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:49:51 AM »
Just wanted to share a picture of a project that I have been working on.

Since I am in a light wind area (S Cal, rated = 0), I wanted to try my hand at developing a micro turbine that runs in a slight wind. The components are a 9 coil stator, 18 AWG, with 80 turns, star wiring,  12 neo magnets rated at 32 lbs. My output is not all that impressive at 12volts in a stiff breaze. not sure of the amps. This was a fun project but the bottom line is that solar is probably a better choice for my area.

Hi: It's hard to tell from one photo, but it looks like you could use a much bigger sweep area for a gen of that size, like double or triple the length of the blades...

Seems a bit of a waste of the work you put into the rotors and stator to be using that "blade" set.  Try some bigger (longer) blades, see what happens.
