1000 W generator head for wind gen
« on: December 24, 2008, 09:07:57 PM »
Question: I'm continually seeing these 2 cycle 1000W generators for 90 to 130$ , now I'm not inclined to buy it for gasoline use, but has anyone looked at the generator head that these untis have.

The only information I could find on one is that it ran at 3500 rpm, a little to fast for wind gen use, but maybe a rewire etc?

any thoughts?

Could you please post 2 or 3 links with samples of the type you're talking about? Sounds interesting, but not enough info for me to start a search.

If you can't find links, what is this type normally used for? and what brands/models do you most often find?

It is easy to find these generator heads that are used and very cheap when the engine dies. They are an induction generator where the spinning armature is made from electro-magnets (coils of copper wire) instead of permanent magnets.

They are wound to produce 110 VAC at around 3,000 RPM's, and they are the least appropriate donor to try and modify to produce 12/24/48v from wind. I have not converted one, but others have, and I trust when they say its too much work to result in too small an output.

Research this site for "Zubbly motor conversion" and also "GE ECM motor".

Permanent Magnet Motors (PMM's) are easily converted to a wind powered Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA), it might be good to research those too. Best of luck.

Thanks, I've done an ECM conversion see http://www.rovr1.com/wind under projects

Sine these untis are brushless was wondering if anyone had taken one apart

I just re-read your post, I somehow managed to miss the part about the elctro magnets....dumb on my part... scrap this idea

Thanks for the input
