« on: April 05, 2009, 02:13:18 AM »
Does anybody have any experience with CMS in Plano Texas? They have some pretty good prices on magnets.

Hello fabricator,

I've built 3 genny's so far and bought all of my magnets from them, I've had no problems so far and they do have very good prices.

Thanks much for the reply, I'm about to pull the trigger on 32 3x1.5x.75 magnets

with a countersunk hole, will the hole with a countersunk bolt negatively affect

the magnetic fields in any way?

I'm not sure if the fields will be affected, maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in on that. I have used the ones with holes in them on my first two genny's, much smaller than what you are going to be using,1"x1" ring mags with 3/16"bore, that is what I have flying right now on my 8 1/2' mill, if there is somekind of negative effect I haven't noticed it.

Eric

Those are some beefy magnets, 3"x1.5"x.75", you must be building quite a large genny.

It's the Dan's 17 footer, I have been doing a lot of reading today, it looks like as long as the fasteners are stainless there will be no problem.

Use stainless steel screws.  Or brass.

Do Not use regular steel screws because they will short some of the flux.
