will a regulator rectifier work to charge batterie bank
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:19:31 AM »
This is my first wind generator im trying to make & still learning. what i am thinking seems to easy, i have a regulator rectifier from a honda goldwing. it has three yellow wires for the 3 phase red wire for + green for - & black for voltage monitor for charging. it has cooling fins to help keep it cool. i belive it will convert the 3 phase to 12volt & charge the batteries? Im guessing i must not be understanding something becouse this seems to easy. can any one tell me if this will work or what i am not understanding. also when i first started this project i geared up a 13 h 12volt dc motor, which i swiched for a axil flux alternator but i still have it geared up 3 12 to 1 is that a bad idea? my mill has 4 five foot blades, the alternator has 24 1x1x.5 neo mags im using 2 10 inch ciruler caw blades for rotors 12 mags on each & 9 coils that i am still putting together. does any one see any problems with designe.

I am sure the Honda rectifier will work but have no idea of its rating, it was intended for air cooling at speed. You seem to be aiming for a small machine it will probably be ok but check it doesn't get too hot.

If it is a HAWT with 5ft blades then I wouldn't expect to have to gear it up for an axial alternator but have no details to even guess at. Gearing is a pain and best avoided.
