Winding

Hi all

Help !! I have been building Hugh Piggott,s 10ft, 24v, 3 phase,

June 2005 edition page49,

The magnets he used are n35,s & 17awg /2wire/75 turns

I have n42,s ? Can anybody help with wire size and number of turns

I am a little lost!!!

Going from N35 to N42 won't make a lot of difference. You can most likely use the same winding and increase the air gap a little bit and have more mechanical clearance.


You could probably manage with 70 turns and keep the same gap. I don't think you can gain enough space to use thicker wire.

If you wind very nice tight coils, you can fit #16 wire in there I think...  for 48V machines of that voltage and those magnets, with 12" rotors, I usually use 70 turns of #16 these days, but the coils need to be wound tightly.  #17, with 70 turns, will fit easily.
