Where can I get 3 inch magnets for 17 footer
« on: October 03, 2009, 03:42:22 AM »
I am building the 17 foot turbine. I have most of the components sourced except for the magnets. I have looked around but they dont seem to be available.

Can anyone recommend a good site to buy 32 of these N42 grade, 3 inch x 1.5 inch by 0.75 inch blocks.

Thanks

Gerry

Hi Gerry ~ we won't have those magnets in stock for a month or 6 weeks or so.  Right now I expect you could get them from either magnet4sale.com, or magnet4less.com

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

Thanks DanB for the reply. Those 2 links do have the 3 inch magnets.

Regards.

Hi Gerry,

You are in the USA i assume? I toyed with the idea of importing magnets from the US for my 18 footer, I live in Ireland. In the end I was lucky enough to find a supplier in Europe, Bakker Magnetics. This company custom built wedge shaped magnets, triple nickel coated and epoxy encapsulated, to my specs (very handy) and they cost less than half what I would have been charged in the US. The magnets are produced in their sister company in China. I know you are going to say poor quality blah blah get what you pay for blah blah, but after doing a LOT of research these are the very best quality you can get worldwide. The Dutch are world leaders in both magnetics and wind turbines and I can vouch for their customer service. Heres their contact details-

Bakker Magnetics bv

Let them quote you happy and enjoy the fact that you will get magnets EXACTLY the right shape and power for your project. The Magnets4less 'off the shelf' products do not after all fit the 18" rotors terribly well, and because the inner corners are so proximate to each other there will be some eddy current and field cancellation losses. Believe me the wedge shaped, radiused magnets really do the job better!

Cheers

Richard
