3 PHASE 80KVA ALTERNATOR

Are there any ideas how i can get my generator to chuck out its 3phase its got an exiter on the end of the alternator its been stood up for a couple of years,if anyone can help i can provide more info poss photos,dongle allowing,the reason i need this power is so i can run my 3phase welder to fix me boat

Do you seriously think anybody could offer meaningful advice on such scant information.


Please supply as much info on the generator as possible with photos then you will receive the advice you need.

I assume from this that the thing worked before left standing and now doesn't.


If the exciter is a dc generator then it will probably be the exciter that is at fault. If it has a commutator and brushes then you may have to clean the commutator and make sure you have brush pressure ( they sometimes get stuck).


If it is not a commutator exciter or you have cleaned the comm with no effect then you may have lost residual magnetism. You may have to flash the exciter field with a car battery but you must get the polarity correct. You can probably measure a low residual voltage to get an idea of the correct polarity. If it is a brush machine lift the brushes before you flash it and that will save passing a large current into the armature.
