? how big of a mast do I need.
« on: January 10, 2010, 05:24:23 PM »
I have a four post,40 foot tall tower with a 10 inch hole in the top for supporting a mast, the mast will be 10 feet in the tower and ten feet out of the top of the tower. The yaw bearing will rotate on the top of this 20 foot mast. the 20' turbine pages show 5" on the yaw beraing, and 4" supporting it, but does not say thickness ?, schedule 40 ?.

What size schedule 40 do you think I should use as a mast. I have spoke with two experts on these old farm windmills, both have been installing them for 20 years. they say it will handle the 20 footer. One of these guys has installed over 800 windmills. My township zoning keeps me at 60 feet.

If I wind it for 240 volt where can I get rectifiers rated for that voltage.

Schedule 40? For 8" pipe thats 28.5 pounds per foot and offers no/low benefits compared to Schedule 10 at 13.6 pounds per foot..
