What's this "puter" nonsense?
« on: December 15, 2005, 04:02:31 PM »
...it annoys me only because it is apparently some very old movie (or perhaps radio show) reference or something that I don't know.  Sort of like when somebody uses some jargon from a sport we don't play here in the U.S., like cricket or Ausie football or Rugby.

My dad does it all the time.  He's in his mid-sixties now.  Maybe I'll remember to ask him about it when I see him at ex-mas.

I was just wondering if one of you folks who seem to want to shorten "computer" to 'puter could think back and try to fill me in on whatever it is in your past that makes you do that.

thanks,

jp

    Yo JP

Probably the same thing that makes you change the United States of America to U.S. and Australian to Aussie and Christmas to ex-mas.

Glad to be of help.

Hi JP

I'm kinda of an old guy myself. My reason for using the term "puter" is I don't like swareing in public.

Since I'm old and have a hate, hate , hate relationship with computers I think thats pretry mild compaired to what I relly want to call them when I have trouble making them do what I want them to do or I loose an HRs 1 finger typing a story on the OP board.

OH and I'm not sure what JP means? LOL just kidn.

I'm with Jerry on this one.

It's much nicer to say "puter" than POS!! while the boss is standing there wondering where his emails went off to.

IMHO

A kind word often goes unsaid BUT never goes unheard
