Distilled Water
« on: February 06, 2005, 12:53:06 AM »
Reading earlier postings One could assume that condensing steam from any source would produce distilled water.I think evaporation has to be at a certain rate or temp to produce good quality distilled water. My reason for this  is that after operating a steam boiler, 500 lbs per hour evaporation rate, for a number of years the steam pipes corroded from the inside due to the creation of carbonic acid. The boiler per se was not compromised since it had a thin film of lime accummulated on the heating sufaces,a condition welcomed by the boiler inspector on his annual inspection.  The main steam line was sloped back to the boiler in order to drain condensate when the system was shut down, other automatic drains were also provided at low points for the same reason. Any other comments on this?
