Progress
« on: October 17, 2009, 08:41:57 AM »

I know everyone has had complaints, but as of this morning, just about

everything works.  Maybe should have put this in diaries, but wanted to see if reviews worked.

It's getting a lot better folks.

Dan F--thanks. Not many would take the time.

Kurt--punt this if you think it is in the wrong place

Well if everything works, why do things still take forever to load?

First off, I love this board!  It is absolutely the greatest.  Maybe there needs to be a category named "Board Complaints".  Personally I have yet to figure out how to change my password.  Thankfully "Windows" remembers the funny one that was assigned to me, 'cause I never would.  Keep up the good work.  For some reason windmill people are the best.  I've sold many different things, software, cars, equipment, and dealt with many different types of people and found that this group is more understanding and tolerant than any others.

Zeus--that's one of the things that I thought was a lot better.  Not

quite up to old standards, but a lot better.  I have been deleting cookies almost daily though, so maybe that's the difference?

Or I am just plain lucky?

VF--I was getting that as well, but, knock on wood, good for the last couple of days.  Had a bit of trouble this morning with being logged in, but not able to do anything.  Logged out, back in, and all is well.  That is, if this posts.

Not perfect yet, but I stand by the comment that it is better.

   Best of luck,

Well, I suppose I'm unlucky because some things take up to 15+ minutes to load...

Zeus-- didn't mean to cause more irritation, that long would try my patience.  Some are longer for me, but never more than 15 seconds.  Don't know what the answer is.

Without question, this is absolutely the most brilliant and greatest communication vehicle on the web. Having worked with internet service provisions, hosting network exchanges and installing HUGHES broadband satellite every day for people remotely in the mountains for several years, I know that administering such a perfect public access vehicle, and keeping it humming along takes perpetual 24/7/365 hovering attention by several computer gurus. There's the warding off of untold spam and malicious post attacking that's usually hammering at it in the background, all while we are using it for collaborating and posting system designs here in the foreground.

I wouldn't create a section called board complaints. Perhaps 'Board Service Notices' or something along those lines would suffice without seeming problematic.

Nonetheless, Hats off to all who do all the good things to keep it rolling and there for the world.

Works great in Ubuntu (Linux) perhaps some issues are with Windows and IE

I too install broadband Internet, as a day job, although lately with the recession or the time of year,  business is very slow. I do wireless Internet in remote mountain locations in northern New Mexico, as well as town jobs. My remote WiFi relay tower is PV powered and knock on wood is in its third year of operation.

Anyway this site loads faster than mine

I still get that Updating page, every day. I am on this site several times a day, every day. Mostly I get it when I click on Diaries, on the right side of the page.

I've done all updates and refresh, often. Might need to log out and back in, and see if that might help ???

Great folks and good info on this site, even though the Car Alternator questions are treated roughly. Page usually loads fast, even for my dialup, down here, in CR.

Squid is a cache server. It stored frequently requested pages for quicker access. That is a problem on sites where the pages are very dynamic such as recent activity pages that are always changing per each users request. This is a typical error with Squid running between us and the actual site. Squid has problems when It times out. It gives wrong page returns. The Scoop upgrade is great but Squid belongs on the Ocean floor.

If you google Squid you will see it has many problems.
