Warning to new site users!
« on: April 24, 2005, 10:39:55 AM »
This site is so good I now finding i'm spending more time on site reading than doing!

Trouble is posts have links back to previous things which have further links......... and i'm becoming a real anorak much to my wifes annoyance i'm seriously depleting her ebay time which is obviously dangerous territory so new users beware of 'site suction'!

Hello my name is Norm and I'm an 'otherpoweric'

Congratulations!  You are on the road to

regaining control ... The first step is realizing

that you are addicted...

Get a timer that will shut off everything after

1 hr.  This will get you off of the computer and

hopefully your wife will begin to realize that

you need RE and emergency power and it is for the

whole family's benefit.

                 ( :>) Norm.

My name is Chris and I'm an addict. 10 minutes after I'm done looking at the board, I check it again just to see if anything new has come up. I'm also on the IRC 24/7.

Hi, my name is mike and I'm an addict. 95% of my internet time is on this site and researching RE stuff. Will eventually require RE to power the computer so my time here doesn't blow the power budjet.

I am definately addicted. I am looking at setting up a small 'Urbine' as large and high as the neighbours will stand.

Folk near us have PV and solar water heating systems (not on the same roof but I might!).

If I can work out how to silence a small diesel genny I would even be up for having one of those running on biodiesel.

...and my wife keeps asking "What is 'Forcefield'?" but she would be happy to cut the fuel bills.

The easiest way to silence a stationary engine is to have the exhaust pipe go outside and then have it go underground, where you put two or three mufflers on it, then have the pipe end come back above ground again.

When it comes time to bury it all, pack it in sand for about twice the diameter of the muffler casing, then twice again the diameter of dirt over the top.

The added advantage of this arrangement is that all the moles for several hundred feet will have buggered off due to the racket!!  :)

As for silencing the actual engine, just build an insulated cabinet around it with a few computer fans circulating air.

As for the radiator, just relocate it away from the engine and use electric fans on it.

It's also bad for your wallet! Or good! Depends if she's buying or selling :)

Mine sells, and I have to stop this or connect MY computer to the net now.

Because of all the trash in the wild I have lots of computers, but only this one (hers) is online at home.

Can't find the wallwort for my external modem since I moved the system, got to find it and put my system back online here at home. Kids still ain't gonna get hers online. Just too much problems and time to keep them cleaned from NET garbage.

Perhaps you too need a second system??

I work at home usually.

Should I get the soldering iron going?

In a few minutes. I wanted to check something on this board. Wonder what it was...

Hey look! Somebody posted new pics!

I can solder tonight. Or tommorow.

in front of computer, lol

but,

system next to bed and thats the only place to set down stuff.

So girlfriend is very sweet to let me do my thing, ( lucky for me that

after she spends all day working on a computer, she never gets near one after

work)
