Board Workaround II
« on: February 15, 2008, 05:09:52 AM »
I've noticed when a diary disappears you can get the entire contents by simply adding in a forward slash (it's on the same key as a question mark) at the end of the url of the missing article.  Take for instance the article under Diaries labelled "Algorythm for determining average wind direction".  When I click on the root discussion it reads as:

http://www.fieldlines.com/comments/2008/2/11/181844/130

To correct the url I simply need to add the forward slash and it becomes:

http://www.fieldlines.com/comments/2008/2/11/181844/130/

Suddenly the entire contents show again.  I have a feeling the problem with disappearing links is more a simple "source" problem for the links generated on the web pages.  If the source of each generated page would add the trailing forward slash into the linked url then the problem would perhaps go away.

Yea.  I bet it fell off the internet by accident when a HDD was turning too fast.

Thank god some one figured it out.

Funny.

The first link without the trailing forward slash did not show up an hour ago.  Now it shows up fine when formatted either way.  In fact someone asked for help finding it because they thought it was erased.  Something is definitely wrong with the server.  I just offered a simple workaround for now.
