And he's smart too!

He is so young he's still flexable.

I can't reach my knees, but I've seen a photo of fungus that looks like he's broken in half.

Fungus need to send me $100 or I'll post a link.  Hmwhahaha.  That's my best evil laugh.

Not only smart (and flexible apparently!) but also eloquent.  To see something that well written by someone of your age is heartening; may the sun continue to shine on you.

This thread has become too big for me to read all responses but, for what it's worth I agree with others this board is a victim of it's own sucess.

I do not believe it is broken, perhaps it is time to turn it on it's head and make diaries the lead and questions the side bar.

Didnt think you were the sort of person to look round a site when a link to a boost converter picture is shown .. not that its a bad thing ;-)

I'd rather be thought of as 'Fungus' not 'Fungus=15' though ;-)

I'd rather not be thought of as "Damon=40", but you can't have everything... B^>

The way I see it the whole issue boils down to; "Get off my lawn!" vs. "Stuff it old man!"

Neither is right and neither will get us anywhere. Oh well.

(Yes, I know software modification is basically impossible but...)

Personally, I wish we could rate and tag threads (you could kill comment-rating and nobody would notice)...

Rating threads would allow the group to push the cream to the top. Then you could say, "read all the 5-star material before posting a new thread" and there it is.

Tags, well, I'd like to see all threads that contain some form of 'recycling' - that's not something you can ever hope to find with simple search terms. And recycling is too broad to have an "official" category - a thread about a wind project where 1 piece was made from recycled material would still end up in the wind section.

Imagine if you could tag something 'badidea' and rate it 0. Anyone coming along after you would see the 'badidea' tag and could skip it. A 5-star 'badidea' could even be interesting reading - how bad would it have to be to be the best bad idea that anyone has shared? And you could even point newbs to the 'badidea' category...."Before you post, make sure your idea hasn't already been posted <link>here</link to badideas>"

Anyway, I get why some people want to keep the place "make electricity from scratch" and nothing else but I think the site could evolve and be ok too. Heck, you could argue that the site has already evolved and that people are just now noticing....

I can't get off your lawn because it's been hauled off. In its place there's a theme park. So you've still got patches of grass here and there but you've also got a lot more cool attractions. What, you didn't want a steam-powered roller coaster? Why not? ;-)

Wow this place is really degenerating in every way since I've started on here. I'm 21 and have been browsing this board for 4 years now(didnt realize I used to post as much as I did).

This place is a community of great minded individuals and good friends, if only everyone could learn to be more patient and understanding with the less knowledgeable, instead of instantly flaming everyone else. I personally like the way the site is ran, and the way TomW moderates it and sometimes even wish he were stricter.

You can still get on here and search and find great information. Good stories and diaries are still posted, along with some dumb noob ones just as they always were(dumb as in easily searchable or stupidly greedy). Hell I'm sure I've had my own. I agree though a thread rating system would be a great thing to have, but I think having an average looking forum would be tops.

Come here and discuss how to become more self sufficient through alternative means. Dont come here trying to save cash on a non related subject(Non RE) or looking to pick on someone because your mother didnt hug you enough as a child. Damnet people get off your ass and discuss/build renewable energy stuff, lurk, or get the hell out... One thing is for sure though, there is more bickering and complaining than ever before.

I personally love this site! Even when we do get a storm there is a calm. The dust will settle and then will get going again. This isn't the end but only the beginning! Grab a cup of coffee and kick back .

Gus;

Comment rating is not enabled, as far as I know. You can rate but it doesn't actually do anything.

Another one of the features ADMIN never enabled, like Karma. Both of which were reasons Scoop was chosen. Post count was killed off somewhere along the line. Another very useful feature disabled for some reason.

Maybe its time to fire up a Drupal site for those with interest in a more mature user base? Let this forum serve the Newbies. Set up as a forum that has not been lobotomized. Just a thought.

By reading this thread I realized that I have

got a problem, many others probably are sharing.

It is the problem of time, I cannot read all the posts.

It is probably a problem of TomW as well?

My opinion is very much the same as that of WindstuffEd.

It is not a good idea to tell to

a new poster, just do his/her research

and then come back. If it is so easy to do that research,

then better to tell the link,

where to find that answer?

I think that the main problem is

the popularity of the board.

The quality has not come down,

but it is more difficult to control it nowadays,

because of the traffic.

A cure is maybe to find a moderator

to the task to point out,

where to find answers

for such questions,

which have been asked many times already?

I think that one reason for the change

on the board is that

such windmills, which mainly

started the popularity of this board

are quite mature technology now.

Some people know about them already quite well

and are feeling bored,

if again same questions concerning them are asked?

Why not starting intense new developments and discussions

related to other kinds of RE technologies...

biogas, steam, thermal solar...

fungus-

(I still LOL when I read your user name)

(my first pick was banned so I came up with this one),{ff or johnnyfoos isn't my name, it is who I am! put your quarters up, and school starts! And I will always have more drive towards that than even the "Hooked on R.E." habit I have now!}

Anyway, I knew your age from your posts and your parents should be proud! I can only hope that I've done a little bit of that kind of teaching to my own children.

:)

PS: This forum is why I have a ISP!!!
