I am considering starting a local discussion group on alternative energy

has anyone been down this road and what are the pitfalls

would it be best to advertise openly or select like minded people with relevent expertise (electrical,mechanical,etc)

thanks

windspeed;

If by "local" you mean "real world, face to face" then I would go the flyers route on local bulletin boards. Places like hardware stores, Auto parts stores and other businesses where likely candidates frequent. Followed by local advertiser type papers and local newspapers.

Just how I would do it.

Here in Minnesota there is near zero gold available for prospecting (some color the glaciers moved down from Canada millions of years ago) yet there are groups that meet monthly and go hunting for it in rivers and gravel pits. Yahoo Groups is how these people connect, and individuals advertise or network through other groups with "pay" memberships, etc. etc.. Check out Yahoo Groups, there may be activities and projects already happening in your area!
