reflectors for solar hot water
« on: September 14, 2004, 05:50:05 PM »
Hi all,

I have a solar hot water service made of polly that seems to be fairly ineficient and was wondering if anone had tried using some type of reflecter to increase the captured sun. Had thoughts of using pollished stainless sheet into some kind of reflector.

Be great to here from anyone who has done something like this before I spend any money on it.

Thanks and kind regards,

Mos

Copper coils seem to do the best . Put the coils on a sheet of tin .Use stove paint and a dead air space the rest is the same .Drain down valves etc .Poly will break down

 copper can take the heat.

I have also wondered if reflecters are useful on photocell systems ?

Getting the cells hot reduces their efficiency, not to mention can melt their solder lines. Setting up a concentrating system would inevitably create a diminishing return taking into account the need to control that heat.
