Viva panels
« on: March 20, 2005, 09:45:08 PM »
I have a chance to buy a 75 watt Viva brand panel for $499.99. Brand new. Has anyone heard of these? Are they any good? I've never heard of this brand. I'm hoping I can get this in the next couple of weeks. This seems to be a really good price. I only have solar for back up right now but I would like to start expanding it. The more power I can make, the more I can do with it, the more I can show my wife that this is practical. When the power goes off she thinks it's great but seems to forget while the hydro is on. Funny how that works. Any input would be appreciated.

I'd love to find a deal like that! I'm not sure if it makes a difference but i'm in Canada. From every where I've priced this doesn't seem like a bad deal for around here. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places. Every panel I've seen over 120 watts is around the $1000 range or higher. Where are you? Maybe I should be looking some where else. Thanks for the input. :-)

Hey Monza Dude,

You can buy them new at Natural Power Products, Ontario, Canada for the same price, but with a ten year warranty. Their number is 519-504-1600

I'm in Canada and have found UniSolar 32 watt panels for $145 Can. That's what I concider very good. They are from a small company called Jentronics here in NovaScotia.

That's where I was going to get it from. I'm not sure now. Some of you are getting really great deals. I'm trying to avoid the cost of shipping, so the closer to me the better. I'm near Ottawa Ontario.

Try http://www.sunelec.com they have the best deals I've seen on panels and they ship world wide...  499 seems a bit expensive for a 75 watt panel to me also...

Given a choice I would go to EarthSolar.com for Kyocera 120 watt panels.  Two for about $454 plus shipping last time I looked.

Of course, they are in Arizona, so might have some trouble shipping to Canada.

Try this new site,  120volt units, good output wattage.  only problem would be mounting for mechanical protection.

I called Jentronics and they told me that actually this was a costing error on their end; they were quoted the wrong price by their supplier and actually sold a few units at this price, which is not only far below their normal retail cost but actually below the cost the dealer charges them! Sort of a 'right place at the right time' kind of deal for you Paul :)

For everyone else in canada, I haven't found new panels retailing for less that 7-8$Cdn per watt. I think the Viva panels at 500$ for 75 watts (6.66$/watt) is about the best you're going to do for retail panels. Now back to my ebay cells....<grin>

Retail for them, in the most recent old papers I have, is US$212.

So $145CAN is a dang good price, about 1/2 price.

Wish I would have been there for that one!

I would be VERY concerned about the warrenty.

It seems to be from 1 to 10 years.

Most crystal panels are warrented for 25 years.

And if they have been making PVs for 10 years,

why can't I find anyone selling them?

It just raised a couple Red Flags in my mind...
