Thermal Solar generation tower to be built in Austrailia
« on: February 26, 2005, 04:49:15 PM »
Another story that I found on http://slashdot.org about a solar tower to be built in Austrailia tentativly scheduled to begin construction in 2006. This will become the world tallest manmade structure taller than the CN tower in Canada. the heat collector will cover 25,000 acres and the tower will be more than 2/3 mile tall.

Here is another article about the same thing but may be Slashdotted (overloaded) today as I can't get it to load at this time.

I'm thinking the the slashdot site is slashdotted all the time . . .

That is an awesome idea, that makes me envious of the Aussies pragmatic approach to solving a big problem, build a big solar powered generation plant. I suspect that it will work well as a result of their collaboration with their German friends in its design. I wish we had such pramatism in dealing with our own problems and the leadership to make it happen here in the US .

Great Post Woof!

FYI, Anyone wishing to comment on this story will have to shorten the subject line as I did to successfully post a comment. It is an interesting story, and deserves our attention.

Jomoco;

This type setup has been posted here multiple times in the past.

I think most of us don't get too excited about these massive projects until they hit the brick and mortar stage.

Sorry Ben, but I wasn't kidding, I think solar power generation on a large scale is a great idea, and it has my whole hearted support regardless of who's doing it. If you find my enthusiasm for clean energy somewhat sappy, put it down to my being an old lumberjack who doesn't shower as often as I should and can't get all that darn sap out of my hair!

With all due respect,

Hey Pickster, try a handful of gojo in the wash, works for me, unfortunately it just ends up smelling like gojo, but I find that little bit of variety breaks the monotony, somewhat, atleast it gets the sap itself out!

Good luck!
