Does it get better?
« on: March 10, 2006, 01:37:01 PM »
Hi all. I have just finished upgrading my system from 12VDC to 24 VDC and my overall performance seems to have increased considerably. If I was getting a maximum output of 400W from my homemade solar panels, I now have a maximum output of 550W, depending on the condition of the battery and sun.

My question is, should the performance of the system as a whole increase if I go up to 48VDC? Or is it not such a big difference, considering the costs of changing the system?

Maybe someone with experience in this can shed a light.

Thanks,

Christian

I live connected to the GRID, though I have been making my live hood with Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

By definition, higher the voltage less the losses and easier to work and control the power.

I have installed wind mills and Solar Panels, non have been below 48 volts, several 120 or 240 volts battery systems.

Off course I have done some 12 & 24 volts for very small special systems.

Cost may be a factor, as well, battery maintenance for high voltage systems that some people may consider for the initial system, but for long term, there are benefits non available in the low voltage systems.
