40 watt solar panels
« on: September 13, 2006, 12:18:19 AM »
I can preorder EPV 40 watt panels http://www.epv.net/pdfs/PublicSpecSheetRev5_8-23-05.pdf for $150 each if anyone is interested. They would be available around the end of the  year.

5th word-set in. . .

"thin-film"

Unless they have severely improved this film panels, don't waste the doh. . .

They start to degrade as soon as they are left in the. . . sun. . .

Of course so do other types, but thin-film are the most significant losses due to exposure to light.

Also in the same document: "The rating of the EPV-40 module takes into account the attenuation that occurs during the first several months of module deployment."

My understanding is that thin-film cells don't continue to degrade, and that ethical manufacturers advertise their stabilized rating, not the out-of-the-box rating.

But, also note that these panels have an operating voltage of 44V.  Make sure your controller can handle these!
